ISLAMABAD: It seems the residents of twin cities will have to sacrifice their comfort vis-à-vis their daily commutes during the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping on April 20 and 21.

A press release issued by the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) on Friday detailing the traffic plan for the city said a total of 416 wardens will perform duty during the two days and several major arteries will be closed for traffic.

Heavy traffic will be banned from entering the city while light traffic will be diverted to alternative routes at a number of points.

Heavy traffic from Lahore would not be allowed on the Islamabad Expressway from Rawat while the GT Road will remain open for all kinds of traffic. Similarly, heavy traffic from Peshawar will not be allowed on IJ Principal Road, rather, it would be diverted towards Saddar on Peshawar Road.

Likewise, heavy traffic from Murree will not be allowed beyond 17 Meel toll plaza. Heavy traffic from Kahuta road would be diverted to Rawat.

Inside the city, diversions would be placed at PWD and Judicial Colony on the expressway and motorists coming from Bhara Kahu will reach Tramri chowk via Korang Town, Bani Gala and Park Road.

The road between Bari Imam and Nadra Chowk will remain open but the Constitution Avenue will remain closed from the Serena Hotel to the Radio Pakistan building.

Similarly, traffic moving from Faisal Avenue to Rawalpindi will use the Kashmir Highway from NORI roundabout.

Traffic between IJ Principal Road and Murree Road will use the stadium road while Garden T-cross will remain closed for traffic from sectors I-8 and H-8.

The Islamabad Expressway, which connects the twin cities, will remain closed from Koral to Zero Point during specific hours. Similarly, Murree Road from Faizabad to Rawal Dam Chowk, Serena Hotel and Kashmir Highway from Peshawar Mor to Serena Hotel will also remain closed for specific time periods.

Ataturk Avenue will also be closed from Serena Hotel to NADRA Chowk.

ITP has also appealed to the public to avoid unnecessary travel during the two days and also cooperate with traffic officials.
