PESHAWAR:

Following a large number of fake degree cases, the FATA Secretariat has directed the relevant authorities to follow guidelines when selecting candidates for various posts to avoid any embarrassments later.

According to a handout issued by the FATA Secretariat on Friday, all its directorates and departments, political agents and DCs in Frontier Regions were issued a letter which provided a series of directives to ensure checks and balances in this regard. “The relevant authorities were directed to ensure all candidates have their degrees verified from their universities, educations boards or other regulatory bodies,” stated the handout.

“While selecting candidates for all posts, all departments must ensure all documents have been verified,” read the handout. “This should be a mandatory requirement before appointment letters are issued to candidates.”

The handout added officials have also been warned to take action if a university or education board challenges the validity of degree certificates or academic documents.

“In such cases, the candidate should not be appointed,” it read. “The burden of appointing such candidates will lie solely on the relevant body appointing the official. All departments, directorates and agencies have been instructed to follow the directives in letter and spirit.”
