KARACHI: Key suspect allegedly involved in the murder of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Imran Farooq was detained for 90 days by an anti-terrorism court (ATC).

Moazzam Ali Khan was presented in court today and has been detained for 90 days by an anti-terrorism court in Karachi.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan claimed on Monday that a facilitator of senior MQM leader Imran Farooq’s murderer has been arrested and would be brought to court on Tuesday (today).

Though the interior minister did not disclose the detainee’s name, official sources and the media have been pointing towards a man named Moazzam Ali Khan. Moazzam was allegedly arrested by the Rangers during a pre-dawn raid from his house in Block 8 of Federal B Area near Azizabad in Karachi on Sunday.

Imran Farooq was 50 when, on September 16, 2010, he was murdered in Green Lane near his London residence. His autopsy report said he had suffered multiple stab wounds and blunt trauma to the head.

Interior minister meets British High Commissioner

Separately, Chaudhry Nisar is meeting British high commissioner in Islamabad as the key suspect in the Imran Farooq murder case was presented in court.


Chaudhry Nisar shared important details with British High Commissioner Philip Barton about arrest of Moazam Ali Khan.

Officials also revealed that the British top diplomat requested Pakistan to hand over this key accused with two others already accused; who were arrested in Pakistan.

Scotland Yard wants to investigate these arrested accused, Barton told Nisar Ali Khan and officials further revealed that this meeting was held in Islamabad.

Three more suspects detained by ATC

Three suspects thought to be involved in financing and providing shelter to target killers have been detained for 90 days by an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Karachi on Tuesday.

Babar Chughtai, Faisal Masroor and Mujeeb were presented before an ATC today, where it was ruled that they are to be interrogated for 90 days over their involvement in financing target killers and providing shelter to criminals to avert arrests.

Rangers told ATC-3 that they had credible information against the suspects. Chughtai and Mujeeb have been given three months preventive detention for 90 days while Masroor's papers are yet to be signed.

Chughtai, a Karachi businessman, is part of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), according to sources.

He was arrested by law enforcement agencies for his alleged involvement in several cases. They, however, have yet to ascertain if he was involved in facilitating the killers of MQM leader Imran Farooq.
