Banned for sale: 22 imported items deemed ‘haram'

CHITRAL: The district food controller in Chitral, Sher Fayaz Khan, banned the sale of several food items on Friday. A circular issued from the office of the district food controller has listed 22 items that contain “haram” ingredients; all the items are imported. The circular asked the shopkeepers to discard the items from their shops or action would be taken against them. An official of the food department said Punjab and Sindh governments have banned the items already and now the K-P government is following suit. He added Pakistan is not yet authorised to decide whether a product is haram or halal. However, locals appreciated the initiative of the food department and said the items are not good for health.
