Kabul-Islamabad Ties: Terrorism a common enemy, says Abdullah

ISLAMABAD: Afghanistan’s Chief Executive Dr Abdullah Abdullah said on Thursday that his country wants to maintain a cordial and peaceful relationship with Pakistan and its other neighbours. “Terrorism is the common enemy of Pakistan and Afghanistan and it is essential to take steps for the elimination of the menace by the two countries,” Dr Abdullah told a big gathering at the Pakistan Embassy in Kabul. Addressing a Pakistan Day programme, Abdullah said the region needs to do more in order to get rid of terrorism and extremism. “It is Afghanistan’s priority to live in peace and harmony with its neighbors,” he said, emphasising that peace and security are the prerequisite for the progress and development of both countries. He said the Afghan national unity government has initiated a number of steps to improve ties with Pakistan.
