A flood warning has been issued for Thursday (today) regarding areas near the Chenab River, according to the weather advisory issued by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Wednesday.
A strong westerly wave is like to hit the upper catchments of the Chenab River due to which moderate to heavy rainfall can also be expected in these areas, it said. As a result of the possible rains, the Chenab River at Marala is likely to attain ‘medium to high flood level’, it added.
According to the weather advisory, water levels in the Chenab River may go up to 140,000 to 210,000 cusecs between April 1 and 2.
NDMA spokesman Ahmed Kamal told The Express Tribune that this warning has been issued on the basis of the forecast of the Pakistan Meteorological Department, which is reporting rainfalls over the next couple of days.
