Poor quality furniture: Disgruntled customer slams law suit

LAHORE: A consumer court issued a notice to the proprietor of a furniture shop in a law suit seeking Rs0.5 million for allegedly selling him poor quality furniture that had caused him embarrassment. Khalil said that he bought furniture worth Rs250,000 from Hashmat Ali, the proprietor of Ali Furniture Shop in Sanatnagar. Khalil said the furniture was meant for his daughter’s dowry but only a few months after the wedding, his daughter had told him that the bed had some cracks and the paint had started fading. Khalil said he had contacted Ali about the matter. Ali first dillydallied on the subject and later refused to replace the furniture or return the money he had paid for it. He asked the court to direct the respondent to return the Rs250,000 he had paid for furniture and Rs250,000 as damages.
