Nearly 7-years on: Pakistan to host Women’s Squash

KARACHI: Bahria Town in Rawalpindi will host the first Women’s Squash Association (WSA) World Tour event in Pakistan for almost seven years. There will be players from seven countries participating in the $10,000 prize-fund event to take place at the Safari Club from April 1-4.South African champion Siyoli Waters, ranked 35th in the world, is the event’s top seed. The local favourite is No.7 seed Maria Toorpakai Wazir. The Toronto-based world No.58 is the highest-ranked Pakistan-born player of all-time. “The $10,000 women event shows that Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) is keen to promote women’s squash in Pakistan,” PSF Secretary Amir Nawaz was quoted as saying in a WSA release. “It’s an opportunity for local players to compete against much better players than themselves,” he added.
