Peace Walk: Marchers to embark for Islamabad today
The 12-member delegation of climbers and porters started its journey from Khaplu town
GILGIT:
Participants of a ‘Peace Walk’, that started two weeks ago from the Baltistan region, will embark for Islamabad from Chilas town on Tuesday (today). The 12-member delegation of climbers and porters started its journey from Khaplu town on March 19 and reached Gilgit after covering about 300 kilometres on foot on March 26. There they met the Gilgit police chief and Gilgit-Baltistan Minister for Information Inayatullah Shumali, briefing them about their initiative. “The purpose of this march is to advocate a peace-loving and harmonious public space,” said Hussain, the team leader. The walk will culminate in Islamabad where the activists are expected to meet Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and President Mamnoon Hussain. Locals welcomed the marchers when they reached Chilas on Sunday. “We are taking with us pleasant memories from our time spent in the beautiful valley,” said Ghulam, a member of the delegation. G-B secretary tourism Syed Hadi said the activists will be laurelled once they reach Islamabad.
