Gunners on top with Nasri’s double

LONDON: Arsenal went top of the Premier League by a point after Samir Nasri scored twice in a 2-1 victory over London rivals Fulham.

Nasri opened the scoring only for Diomansy Kamara to level before the half-time interval and Mark Hughes’s men could have shocked the hosts, but another fine individual strike from Nasri earned Arsene Wenger’s team the win.

Beckford adds to Chelsea woes

Chelsea, who would also have gone above Manchester United had they won, drew 1-1 at home to Everton. Chelsea appeared to be on course for a valuable victory when Didier Drogba put the home side ahead with a 42nd minute penalty. But after dominating the first half, Chelsea were distinctly second best after the break and Everton were rewarded when Jermaine Beckford finished after good work by Leighton Baines in the 86th minute.

Gardner keeps Tottenham in check

Craig Gardner marked his first Birmingham start since mid-November by scoring a late equaliser in his side’s 1-1 draw to Tottenham. The result means that Tottenham fall three points behind fourth-placed Manchester City in the race for Champions League qualification, while Birmingham remain 14th.

Meanwhile, Wolves dropped to the bottom on goal difference following a 3-0 loss away to Blackburn. And 10-man City saw off Bolton 1-0 as Wigan shared the points with Stoke in a 2-2 draw. United’s match away to Blackpool was postponed because of a frozen pitch.
