After 17 years: Cantonment board local government polls on April 25

As April 25 has been fixed for the polling day, final results will be notified on April 28.

After a long gap of 17 years, the electoral authority has finally announced the sought-after schedule, April 25, for holding the Local Government (LG) elections in 42 cantonment areas.


However, process of the polls will kick off from March 23 with notification from returning officers. The contesting candidates will be filing their nomination papers from March 29 to 31.


According to the schedule issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the returning officers will adjudicate the nominations from April 2 to 4, while the final list of contestants will be put on display on March 11.


As April 25 has been fixed for the polling day, final results will be notified on April 28.


On the persistent pressure of the Supreme Court, LG polls will be held in cantonments after a long delay. There are a total of 42 cantonments throughout the country which have been divided into wards according to their size – the biggest ones having 10 wards.
