ISLAMABAD:

The Secretariat police on Friday arrested a teenage boy accused of sexually assaulting a seven-year-old boy in the capital’s outskirt, said a police officer.

MS*, 16, a resident of Dhoke Thathi, was arrested by the Secretariat police, after he allegedly assaulted KG*, a third grader, said Investigation Officer (IO) Muhammad Irshad.

The IO said that the accused works as a peanut vendor outside Quaid-i-Azam University.

The police registered a first information report (FIR) charging the teenager with sexual assault under section 377 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

According to the police, the maximum punishment for the crime is ten years and the offence is non-bailable.  The suspect has already been sent to Adiala Jail on judicial remand for two weeks.

While sharing details of the incident, the IO said that the FIR was registered on the complaint of the victim’s father, AG*, who is an electrician.

According to the police, MS is a neighbour of the victim and they had lived in the same area for many years.

On Friday evening, MS asked KG to go with him to a nearby market, offering to buy kites for him.

After buying the kites, they took a detour back through a wooded area, where MS allegedly sexually assaulted KG, said the police.

After the incident, when KG got home, he told his mother what had happened and she immediately went to the police station with her husband to register a case.

The police said that the suspect had initially denied committing any crime, but later confessed.
