SWABI: Chota Lahor judicial magistrate sent Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser’s younger brother on a day-long remand on Friday.

Adnan Khan was arrested by the police for misbehaving with the University of Swabi Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Noor Jahan on Thursday.

According to a police officer, Dr Jahan had submitted a written application stating she had suspended the varsity’s director administration Shuja Waseem—a resident of Murghaz, Qaiser’s native village—for political involvement in the employee union. She wrote the contract employee was warned numerous times but he did not pay heed.

The police official added the university staff protested against the suspension. During negotiations, Khan intervened in the varsity’s internal matter and misbehaved with Dr Jahan. Later, the academic staff took out a rally against the alleged misconduct of Khan with Dr Jahan.

Following the complaint, police arrested Khan on Thursday night and presented him before senior civil judge Syed Iftikhar Ali Shah on Friday, requesting a seven-day remand of the accused. Khan was represented by Gul Mast Khan Advocate in the hearing where the court granted a day-long remand and directed the police to present him at the next hearing on Saturday (today).

A jirga comprising former home secretary Syed Akhtar Ali Shah, Swabi DC Matiullah Khan, Swabi DPO Sajjad Khan and other leaders called on Dr Jahan to settle the matter but failed.

Recently, a report was filed against him over alleged hooliganism at Swabi AAC Khaliq Dad’s office.
