The K-P health department started an inoculation campaign using the inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV) in Peshawar and Bannu districts on Friday.
According to a health official, both the zones are high-risk areas for the poliovirus. The drive will last for over a week during which 297,451 children will be immunised through IPVs. He said 693 mobile teams will administer the vaccines to children between the age of four to 23 months in 183 demarcated areas.
A statement issued by the health department stated over 5 million children have been immunised against nine vaccine preventable diseases during Sehat Ka Ittehad.
It further stated 96% of the targets have been achieved whereas the remaining children will be inoculated in a special campaign which is on the cards. Earlier, a health department official said parents of 11,100 of 0.75 million children refused the administration of polio drops to their children.
