ISLAMABAD: A police inspector disappeared from the outskirts of Islamabad on Thursday. The city police were trying to ascertain whether he had been abducted.

Inspector Rana Pervaiz left his house on Thursday and had not returned till the filing of this report. His family told the police that he had gone to meet someone in Tarnol from where he had called home using a cellphone. However, it was the last contact that he had with his family.

Police said his last known location, according to his cell phone, was in Fateh Jang Tehsil in Chakwal District. They have not yet ruled out the possibility of kidnapping for ransom or revenge. Inspector Rana had been serving at the Crime Investigation Department where he had been involved in busting criminal gangs.

Earlier, Pervaiz was dismissed from service by the Inspector General of Police  on corruption charges and alleged dereliction of duty. However, he was reinstated on a court order a few months ago.
