Polio virus detected in three month old in Balochistan

Infected child had received six doses of polio drops; this is the third polio case from Balochistan

QUETTA: A new polio case emerged in Balochistan on Monday as a three month old boy from Quetta was detected with the crippling disease.

An official of the Balochistan health department confirmed three month old Abdul Rehman Achakzai, a resident of Pashtunabad in Quetta had contracted the crippling polio virus.

The infected child had received six doses of polio drops.

This is the first case of polio in Quetta this year and third in Balochistan.

As many as 23 cases of poliovirus were detected in Balochistan in 2014. Meanwhile, at least nine polio workers and security guards have so far been killed during the last five months in Quetta and Zhob.
