
Mehtab was addressing the institute’s second convocation since it was upgraded to the status of a university in 2008.
Besides the 110 students who were awarded degrees. at the Roose Keppel Hall of the university on Saturday, Vice Chancellor Ajmal Khan, Registrar Professor Dr Sareer Badshah, Controller of Examinations Professor Attaullah Khan as well as deans and heads of various academic departments were present. Others in attendance were members of the Senior Alumni Association and parents of the graduates.
The governor, who is also the chancellor of all public sector universities, urged graduates of ICP to serve the nation and its people with complete dedication. Appreciating the performance of the students, he stressed that the competent faculty of the university played an equally important role in the success of the future’s “nation builders”.
He added if teachers played a role in the education and character-building of the youth, parents were also responsible for paying full attention to all aspects of their children’s lives.
Earlier, Vice Chancellor Ajmal Khan recalled the role of ICP students in the Pakistan movement and their affection for the father of the nation Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He said Islamia College was upgraded to a full-fledged public sector university in the year 2008. However, he added that his unfortunate kidnapping by militants in 2009 forced the institute to run on ad hoc arrangements for four years. The VC underlined that paucity of funds also caused problems for the university in the running of its programmes or developing infrastructure.
Ajmal Khan also appreciated the performance of ICP students. He said efforts were under way to enhance the academic and research standards of the university.
Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan handed degrees to 110 graduating students of the ICP. They belonged to the BS, MS, MA and MSc programmes. Moreover, three MPhil and two PhD degrees were awarded on the occasion, while the chancellor awarded gold medals to 20 students.
Among those given gold medals were Mohammad Ashfaq, Alamgir Khan, Muneeba Sharafat, Azmat Ali, Sajjad Ahmad, Farah Hussain, Mariam Haider, Mahwish Iqbal, Abdullah Nasir, Muhammad Marwan, Hazrat Bilal, Muhammad Tufail, Noushin, Waqar Ali, Sakina Maqbool and Wajid Ali.
