KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement worker Umair Siddiqui has admitted that a party sector incharge set the Baldia factory ablaze in 2012, Express News reported.

“Umair Siddiqui admitted MQM sector incharge Abdur Rahman set Baldia factory on fire,” a Rangers spokesperson said on Saturday.

Earlier, Rangers placed the blame of the Baldia factory fire on the MQM in a report submitted to the Sindh High Court. The deadly fire killed more than 259 factory workers.

Siddiqui believed to be MQM ‘leak’: sources

In another significant development, inside sources said Siddiqui, who was arrested on February 15 from the surrounding areas of Nine Zero, is believed to be the person who tipped-off Rangers on the ‘illegal activities’ taking place inside the MQM headquarters.

Rangers carried out a raid on Nine Zero on March 11, arresting MQM workers and seizing arms found inside the headquarters.

Siddiqui was presented to the anti-terrorism court today.

“In 2015, to avoid raids, sector in charges were instructed to shift their weapons to the party headquarters in Nine Zero,” Siddiqui was quoted as saying, as mentioned in a press release issued by Rangers on Saturday.

“The weapons were transported from place to another in their Khidmat-e-Khalq ambulances.” The statement further said that Siddiqui admitted to buying weapons from Quetta for the party.

The statement said he killed 120 people in Karachi, including MQM worker Amer Khan’s nephew.

“Siddiqui admitted that MQM’s Anis Qaim Khani would order him to kill certain people and he would carry out the targeted killings.”

“On the orders of Karachi Tanzeemi Committee (KTC) member Hammad Siddiqui, Siddiqui formed a target killing team comprising of 32 workers,” the Rangers press release stated.

The press release further added the target killing team killed 120 MQM opponents.

“Siddiqui’s target killing team killed Rangers lance naik Shaukat as well as PPP’s Faisal Raza Abedi’s guard and MQM leader Amir Khan’s nephew,” it added.

The statement clarified the target killers were not only tasked to kill MQM opponents but MQM workers as well.

Further, the press release stated, that Siddiqui admitted 60 to 70 MQM workers caste ‘fake’ votes in favour of MQM leader Faisal Sabzwari in the May 2013 elections.

Responding to the news, MQM chief Altaf Hussain disassociated himself with Umair, saying he did not know him.

“Media trial has been launched against MQM on gun point in the same manner as it was conducted in 1992,” the MQM chief added, in an interview to a private news channel.

Siddiqui has been handed over to the Rangers on a 90-day physical remand.

Rangers say that he confessed that MQM used to transport arms and ammunition in ambulances.

On September 24, 2014, Rangers conducted a raid at an MQM office of and rounded up dozens of workers affiliated with the party.

Eyewitnesses said a heavy contingent of rangers reached and cordoned off the office when a general workers’ meeting – in which more than 500 workers and local leaders were present – was underway.

Sources say Rangers were attempting to arrest Siddiqui during the arrest, but he managed to flee.

I almost feel sorry for MQM’s ‘Rabita Committee’ and so-called elected members – theye’re only a facade in the party who take the fall for Altaf bhai’s dubious antics. When will they get tired of playing second fiddle to (and occasionally getting physically roughed up by) the real power in the party: cold-blooded murderous goons – aka ‘sector in-charge’ – who report only to the Big Boss in London and operate without impunity. It’s about time MQM’s elected members publicly disassociate themselves from the sector in-charges – it’s MQM’s only hope of redemption.Recommend

i really wish i could live to see that day come when Pakistan is all about just being in a Pakistani and not about political parties.

honestly i see more political flags around the city than Pakistan flags. more political party news than just Pakistan news. its like they just live for politics . not even for religion anymore. why is our city all about politics. you wont see anything like this elsewhere.

People who say were divided on sectarian bases, i feel like were more divided politically. there are more political parties than religions here and each party lives in their own bubble.

America is good in that sense. it only has 2 parties so people are only so so divided. i feel reducing our parties could be the best change ever to happen to Pakistan. less killings too.Recommend

Those who think this will damage MQM, a long desire of the Punjabi and Pakhtun establishment, will realize that MQM will come out of this stronger by taking on a siege mentality. The party has already said all weapons recovered are licensed. All that the law enforcement has to do is get the licenses checked. All this drama about disclosures will be put to an end very quickly as anyone who knows anything about confessions in Pakistan will tell you that they are very easily had through coercive tactics applied by our law enforcement agencies.

The party is not so stupid to hide weapons at its political headquarters. The idiot who is making the disclosures probably had no idea that the weapons at the party HQ are indeed licensed.

I believe those thinking everyone is sick or tired of MQM are also mistaken. Perhaps that is the case with non Urdu speaking citizens of Karachi, but not so with the Urdu speaking majority. Even though the party can improve its image, these Urdu speakers look at alternates to MQM and cannot imagine supporting the likes of PPP, PTI or the non-existent PML.

Like many other controversies and conspiracies (Jinnahpur one comes to mind), this one too will subside with MQM retaining its influence.Recommend

What is unbelievable here is that if a report like this would have been issued anywhere else in the world, there would be a major upheaval in the the entire system and that party or group of people would be hunted like dogs. Here nothing is happening except that on one side the investigation is taking place which is fine but on the other hand the party is probably planning their next move of escape and how to evade the law. I mean, we are not talking about minor crimes here, this report is talking about organized crime which deals in killing people. The fire killed hundreds of people which is a national tragedy. What is the difference between what this party did in Baldia and what happened in Peshawar.Recommend

But these gangsters try to justify their terrorism & barbarism in the name of Mohajirs and portray like it’s a genocide of Mohajirs that “look ji we are Urdu speaking and these things are happening to us” and try to conceal the whole bunch of their crimes in the fold n name of Mohajirs and spread hatred amongst the different communities.
I believe that these culprits have by and large have damaged no other than the Mohajirs themselves. So it’s about time that the Courts, Agencies, Army, Government and the people should unite against all the terrorists whether it be Lyari gangsters or so-called political parties or religious or ethnic groups cum terrorists.
