KARACHI:

Four policemen, including an ASI, were killed and two others wounded in two gun attacks in Karachi’s South district on Tuesday evening.

The city’s police chief, Ghulam Qadir Thebo, believes the attacks were carried out in retaliation for the alleged criminals killed by police a day earlier. Gunmen riding on two motorcycles opened fire on a police van parked, according to eyewitnesses.

The intense firing did not give the policemen in the van any time to retaliate. ASI Riasat Shah and constable Saeed were killed on the spot. Another constable succumbed to his injuries later.

Minutes after the attack, head constable Shakeel and constable Mujahid were fired on by unidentified motorcyclists in the Aram Bagh locality. Shakeel was killed on the spot while Mujahid suffered injuries. Police believe both attacks were carried out by the same men.
