ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that Pakistan is committed to strengthen its economic ties with the United States, and that relations with the US constitute an important component of its foreign policy, Radio Pakistan reported.

“The week will open new avenues of cooperation between the two countries,” said the prime minister while addressing a ceremony on Pakistan-United States Economic Partnership Week in Islamabad on Monday.

“Pakistan offers huge opportunities of investment in different sectors and the environment is also favourable for the investors,” he said.

Nawaz argued that world financial institutions have indicated Pakistan will make economic progress during the coming years, as democracy in the country is strengthening, whereas judiciary and media are also functioning, independently.

Speaking on the occasion, US Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker said the US was committed to work with Pakistan as a partner and friend in different sectors.

“A stable, peaceful and prosperous Pakistan is in the best interest of the United States,” she said, adding that the US is ready to cooperate with Pakistan in the energy, security and trade sectors.

Pakistan has been a strong ally of the United States in the fight against terrorism and has rendered matchless sacrifices in this regard, added Pritzker.
