Polio virus detected in one-year-old in Balochistan

This is the third polio case reported in the province this year

QUETTA: A new polio case emerged on Saturday as a one-year-old boy was detected with the crippling disease in Balochistan's Loralai district.

Naimatullah, son of Dolat Khan, in Union Council, Nasirabad area of Duki in Loralai district was not vaccinated during the polio campaign in the district.

Although health officials have termed this the second confirmed case of polio in Balochistan in 2015, earlier, a polio case was also confirmed in Shafi Mohammed in Chagai district on the first day of 2015.

As many as 23 cases of poliovirus were detected in Balochistan in 2014. Meanwhile, at least nine polio workers and security guards have so far been killed during the last five months in Quetta and Zhob.
