At least 40 terrorists and criminals have been killed in raids across Balochistan since December 16, 2014, according to the provincial security czar. “Around 2,500 suspects have also been detained during this period,” Home Secretary Akbar Hussain Durrani told The Express Tribune.

According to the Home and Tribal Affairs Department, security forces and law-enforcing agencies have conducted 200 search operations in different parts of the province since the government announced the National Action Plan (NAP) which was prompted by the December 16 deadly rampage at the Army Public School in Peshawar.

Responding to a question, Durrani said the dead criminals included religious extremists, armed robbers and absconders, etc. “They were not only Taliban militants, they also included those who were involved in armed robberies, highway hold-ups and other criminal activities.”

The home secretary said PM Nawaz Sharif has also praised the provincial government for effectively implementing
the NAP.
