KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) convicted two men on Thursday over charges of kidnapping, while acquitted another for lack of evidence. Toor Khan, son of Abdul Rehman, and Aamir Farooqui, son of Muhammad Farooqui, were sentenced to life imprisonment by ATC-III for kidnapping a teenager, Usama, in 2009 from Bahadurabad. The kidnappers had demanded Rs50 million for the boy’s release. However, they were paid Rs1 million along with some gold ornaments and the captive was released. Khan and Farooqui were taken into custody, along with another accomplice, during a raid conducted by the police on a factory in Surjani Town. The third suspect, identified as Umair Sami, was acquitted as no charges could be proven against him during the trial. The judge, Saleem Raza Baloch, ordered the relevant authorities to forfeit the movable and immovable property of the convicts.
