The management of radio channel FM 107 has taken exception to the airing of live commentary of ICC World Cup 2015 matches from radio stations of Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC).

The chief operating officer of FM 107 Shahzad Qureshi in a letter written to PBC director general said that FM 107 holds the sole rights of airing live commentary of ICC World Cup 2015 matches. Despite that, he said, PBC is broadcasting the commentary illegally through its MW and AM radio stations.

PBC is not only breaking the law but also damaging the image of the government by infringing upon the rights acquired by FM 107, the letter said.

It warned that it would be constrained to take legal action against PBC if live commentary of the ICC World Cup matches was not suspended. Legal action would also be taken against the ministry of information and the information secretary.

Qureshi said that if PBC does not stop airing world cup commentary, he would approach International Cricket Council (ICC) which itself can blacklist the corporation from acquiring broadcast rights in the future.

The letter warned PBC to refrain from acts that may cause embarrassment to the elected government in front of an international body like ICC.
