ISLAMABAD:

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (Unido) and the National University of Science and Technology (Nust) have agreed to foster entrepreneurship in clean technology innovation in Pakistan.

Both organisations are already working on capacity building of national engineering universities, R&D institutes and local manufacturers of biomass gasifiers.

Speaking on the occasion, Unido Director General Li Yong appreciated Nust’s role in national development and emphasised that industrial development is not possible without the academia’s contribution.

“Economic growth is driven by entrepreneurship, continuous economic diversification, increasing trade, industrial upgrading and technological innovation,” he said.

It was agreed that an MOU will be signed in future to initiate the process for strategic partnership with Nust in the areas of clean energy, efficiency and cleaner production. This cooperation will have long-term multi-faceted benefits for Pakistan, in terms of employment and power generation through clean sources.
