KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has summoned the provincial health secretary and the health department's director-general on February 25 over the alleged procurement of hepatitis vaccine from a multinational company whose registration in under scrutiny.

A division bench, headed by SHC chief justice Maqbool Baqar, gave this direction while hearing a petition filed by civil society activists, including Jawed Iqbal Barki, Sarwar Jawed and others, against alleged illegal registration of drugs manufactured by the multinational company.

Their lawyer, Haider Imam Rizvi, alleged that legal formalities have not been fulfilled while registering the drugs by the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (Drap). Secondly, the drugs firm received a fixed price of the vaccine by Drap's biological director bypassing the pricing committee, which is illegal, he added.
