PESHAWAR:
An Afghan national accused of attacking a police team and possessing explosives has been sentenced to 37 years in prison by an anti-terrorism court.
In a hearing held on Tuesday, the prosecution counsel told the court Khalilullah was arrested on March 16 last year on charges of opening fire at a police team and possessing explosives.The court sentenced Khalil to a total of 37 years in prison.
According to the lawyer, Khalil did not have legal documents to stay in Pakistan and was charged under sections of the Anti-terrorism Act and Explosive Substances Act.
During the trial, the prosecution also produced witnesses who testified Khalil had attacked a police team. No casualities had occurred in the said attack. The court sentenced Khalil to a total of 37 years in prison.
The Afghan citizen has also been ordered to pay Rs50,000 in fine and forfeit his property.
