Terror bid thwarted: 20kg bomb defused in Bannu

The bomb was planted by unknown militants under the Darary bridge in Bannu’s Hakim Bhart area

BANNU: Experts of the Bannu Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) defused a 20-kilogramme explosive device in the city on Friday, police officials said. According to them, the bomb was planted by unknown militants under the Darary bridge in Bannu’s Hakim Bhart area. They said police and BDS personnel reached the site after receiving an anonymous tip-off and cordoned off the area before the latter defused the device. Talking to reporters, BDS official Qismat Khan said the device was carrying 20 kilogrammes of explosive material, two small gas cylinders and batteries. Police have launched a search operation for suspects, but no arrests were made till this report was filed.
