NEW DELHI: Weeks after replacing the Foreign Secretary, India sacked Home Secretary Anil Goswami on Wednesday, the Press Trust of India reported.

Goswami was removed from by the Narendra Modi-led government in the wake of a controversy over his alleged attempt to stall the arrest of Saradha scam accused Matang Sinh. Sinh is a former Congress minister at the centre.
"Home Secretary has been removed," official sources said on a day of hectic activities following media reports that Goswami, a UPA goverment appointee, had tried to prevent CBI officers from carrying out Sinh's arrest on Saturday.

Union Rural Development Secretary LC Goyal has been appointed as the next Union Home Secretary.

His dismissal comes after foreign secretary Sujatha Singh's tenure was curtailed. Indian External Affairs Ministry appointed S Jaishankar, India’s Ambassador to the US, as its new foreign secretary.

@Motiwala:

Sujata Singh was not the choice of Manmohan Singh either. The man selected for foreign secy position was yhe same one that was Manmohan Singh's first choice but Sonia Gandhi had imposed her will because Sujata's father was a Congress loyalist.

Jaishankar (whose political affiliations are not in the public domain) has been an ambassador o USA, China and Russia and even speaks Russian fluently. A better choice at a time that India is trying to navigate relations with all 3 countries is difficult to find.

Of course you just make randoaccusations. Perhaps you feel appointments by Modi are in the Nawaz mold. You couldn't be more wrong.
