National Assembly team visits Huawei in Beijing

Trip aimed at promoting Safe City joint venture.

KARACHI: As part of the increasing emphasis on Pakistan’s information and technology industry, a delegation comprising the National Assembly speaker and 15 members of the assembly made an official visit to Beijing.

The aim of this official trip was to promote the Safe City joint venture, being undertaken in collaboration with Huawei, in addition to finding innovative ways to improve the country’s IT infrastructure.

The China National People’s Congress foreign affairs officer and Huawei’s senior vice president were also present.

After the visit, a meeting was held between the delegation members and the Huawei management, which briefed Sadiq about the ventures and initiatives being undertaken by Huawei Corporation and Huawei Pakistan.

Sadiq emphasised the importance of the Safe-City project, which is very essential for the progress of a developing country like Pakistan.

“It can be of immense help in the administration and management of major cities,” he said. “This project should be launched at the earliest in Peshawar, to overcome the administrative and security challenges being faced by the city.”

Haroon Rashid | 9 years ago | Reply Honorable Speaker Ayaz Sadiq Esq., your concern about Safe City, and a Chinese vendor as Huawei or others arranging a gratis tour to China and become a guard on the country. Huawei is already a major communication vendor utilising the Broadband provider under the UN-ITU, Geneva Broadband Commission, initiative. The UN ITU to which Huawei is a vendor member. I suggest you to evaluate presentations from ITU on this subject not with the Huawei brand, but under generic technology standards Bureau of ITU, Geneva which will be free to Pakistan. Please evaluate first with the ITU UN on hand over all our issues with keys and locks to Huawei vendor with the strategic issues of security and safety of the cities. You will gain and learn a lot first to make a good assessment. Huawei is black listed in Australia, US, and many other countries.which is announced publicly. Arrangement can be made for your study tour to UN on how to make our cities, data safe and secure.
