The kidnappers freed the doctor in a desolated place in Hazarganji, according to family sources.
Initially, the kidnappers demanded Rs50 million as ransom for his safe release; however, the amount was decreased later.
“The kidnappers later demanded Rs30 million,” family sources said, adding that they were eventually "paid around Rs15 million."
Addressing the media after his release, Dr Kumar said he was not provided proper food and was repeatedly beaten during his captivity.

Indians should retaliate by kidnapping Muslim doctors, or any rich Muslim in India. Trust me, wealthy Hindus in Pakistan will be safe.
Imagine this happening to a muslim in India.
Dear assad, are you aware that 5000 hindus from pakistan are taking refuge in India every year? Are you aware recently 100,000 hindus of pak were given indian nationality. Now can you tell me why they come? Also can you tell me why indian muslims dont go to pakistan if Indian hindus were not secular? Thanks
@Rajesh: Can you stop your stupidity for a change? As unfortunate as this is, this issue is not about "hindus" being targeted for you to be appealing to the Pakistani minorities to leave and come to India. Countless "Muslims" are kidnapped for ransom in Pakistan. Go to any big city and this business is thriving. The kidnappers are common criminals who watch for wealth in the family and then kidnap selectively.
Dr. Manoj happened to join the ranks of many of his other fellow Pakistanis who have been subjected to this.
I request all Hindus, Christians and Sikhs of pakistan to migrate to India. You are welcome here. Even if pakistan requests Indian muslims will not go to pakistan. That is the difference.
@Insaaf: Definitely they are most welcome here.I know there are some doctor Hindu they migrated to India in the nineties now residing in Gujarat. But they were are not given permission for practising because the Pakistan medical degree and field experience is invalid in India. They had to again went through so many procedures to full fill for practising in India. After some starting hiccup now they are well established here in Gujarat,India.
@Insaaf: They don't seem to be having that much money; otherwise why do they take 2 months to pay ransom.
If they had so much money then why didnt they go to India instead of risking their lives in Pakistan?
