The attackers on a motorbike shot the policeman in Papoosh Nagar and then fled, senior police official Chaudhry Asad told AFP.
The vaccination drive remained unaffected by the shooting, he added. Another police official confirmed the attack and casualty.
Pakistan is one of only three countries where polio remains endemic. Attempts to eradicate it have been badly hit by opposition from militants and attacks on immunisation teams that have claimed 68 lives since December 2012.

@Had enough: yeah and leave ourselves defenseless against street thugs
I would note that polio police guard teams appear to be unarmed since we have never heard of police shooting back at pillion riding "gunman" teams!
Indian hand ???
Condemnation will not stop these murderers. Killing them before they kill is the only way. Police should learn to judge murderous intentions of terrorists. For example the policeman in above photo should be watching people around, instead he is watching the polio worker. How come they do know how much money a person has in his pocket but they do not know about hidden guns and suicide jackets.
There needs to be indiscriminate and complete de weaponisation of society in Pakista.
Only the Police and Army should be allowed weapons.
