KARACHI: A wide range of dental equipment was displayed at the 12th international and 32nd three-day national dental congress organised by the Pakistan Dental Association (PDA), Sindh, in collaboration with the Dental Trade and Manufacturers Association (DTMA).

The much-awaited event of the year for the dentists and students of dentistry of the country, where they get to unite under one roof, kicked off at the Karachi Expo Centre on Friday.

Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan was the chief guest at the event. Commenting on the theme, ‘Multi-disciplinary Approach in Dentistry’, he said that such an approach was the need of the hour as it would play a pivotal role in the overall health delivery system in Pakistan.

PDA Sindh president Dr Mehmood Shah apprised the governor of the worsening medical condition of Sindh. “Sindh has a total 15,000 dentists, out of which 10,000 are in Karachi and only 5,000 in Sindh,” he said. Shah also urged him to ensure the representation of PDA in the Sindh Medical and Dental Council. During his address, Khan promised to look into the issue and said that he will do his best to give a boost to the profession.

The exhibition

A wide range of dental equipment was exhibited at the event and that, too, at very low prices. The sales representative of Mehran International, Nabeel Shaikh, boasted of his dental implant system at the exhibition. “A decayed tooth can be replaced by our dental implant system within seven to eight minutes,” he said.

The owner of Spine Marketing Services came up with a more advanced tool. ‘Endo Pilot’ was a machine used for root canal treatment. “It has an apex locator with a filling gun. An opener is used to ream the canal access zone to a larger size and remove all infected substances.”

The Feroz and Company’s sales promotion officer, Sajjad Hussain, said that their special product on display was a digital imaging system. “With the help of digital radiography, our X-ray report gives a sharper image,” he said. “Its actual price is Rs6.5 million and we are selling it here for only Rs5 million.”
