A man was killed when a shoot-out erupted between the police and alleged criminals during a search operation in Malikabad village in Gadoon Amazai, Swabi on Wednesday morning.


Swabi DPO Sajjad Khan told the media police received an intelligence tip-off that wanted criminals were hiding in Malikabad village. According to Khan, a search operation was launched in the area following the report.


Khan added when they reached the village, the criminals began shooting at the police team. The officials opened retaliatory fire killing Abu Saeed, one of the gunmen.


The DPO further said Saeed’s accomplices Maqsood and Farooq were arrested and put behind bars. An AK-47, two pistols, a hand grenade and 63 cartridges were confiscated.


According to Khan, all three criminals had been wanted by the police in several cases including attacks on policemen in various areas of the district.
