Pakistan condemns North Waziristan drone strike

Foreign office says such strikes constitute a violation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Monday evening condemned the drone strike in North Waziristan which killed five suspected militants.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government reiterated its known position on such strikes.

“Such strikes constitute a violation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity and demands their immediate cessation,” the government’s statement read.

The strike targeted a Taliban compound in Pungai, Shawal area of North Waziristan Agency on Monday.

“A US drone fired two missiles at a compound in Shahi Khel neighbourhood of Shawal, killing five terrorists,” a senior security official told AFP, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Another security official confirmed the strike and casualties.
