Wrongly accused and convicted

LAHORE: My hats off to Aasia Bibi, resident of Nankana Sahib, birthplace of Guru Nanak, for not buckling under pressure from religious bigots. Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer may have played politics with the provincial government but he needs to be commended for his valiant defence of Aasia Bibi, pointing out that she has been wrongly accused and hence wrongly convicted by a lower court.

However, instead of considering a pardon for her, the woman and her family should be provided security at state expense and the best legal team possible for the appeal which will be heard before the Lahore High Court.
