MIRPUR:
The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) High Court on Friday issued a stay order, as an interim relief, suspending the state government’s recent decision of shifting the store division of the AJK Electricity Department from Muzaffarabad to Mirpur. The AJK High Court Chief Justice Ghulam Mustafa Mughal issued the stay order suspending the shifting of the electricity department’s store division from Muzaffarabad to Mirpur on a writ petition filed by Khawaja Farooq Ahmed, a former minister of the AJK government, on behalf of Muzaffarabad residents. The court has summoned the respondent — the AJK government — to formally respond by fixing March 13 as the next date of hearing. The petitioner contended in his petition that the shifting of the store division will affect power consumers as well as the low-paid employees of the department belonging to Muzaffarabad district.
