'India is responsible for Balochistan unrest'

Musharraf says operation against Nawab Akbar Bugti was justified.

LONDON: Former president Pervez Musharraf said that the Indian government is responsible for creating unrest in Baochistan, while speaking to Munizae Jahangir during an interview on the Express 24/7 programme 'Face Off' in London.

Musharraf reiterated his earlier claims that Indian and Afghan involvement in Balochistan was creating unrest there, adding that the Pakistani government had solid evidence of their involvement and that the evidence had been shared with everyone. “Even (Afghan) President Karzai has been given (the evidence),” he said.

Musharraf said the military operation against Nawab Akbar Bugti was justified as he had been creating trouble in Balochistan. “There is a person who is firing 500 rockets on Sui. There is a person who has occupied the hill features and is firing rockets and weapons… on the Frontier Corps. They are blowing up the gas pipeline, the electric pylon, the railway line”.

He said that Nawab Akbar Bugti’s grandson, Bramdagh Bugti is received by agents from the Indian intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), when he goes to India. “I know that they finance him, they give him weapons to create trouble and stab us in the back in Balochistan.”

While talking about the ongoing probe on the murder of Benazir Bhutto, he said that the three people named by Benazir Bhutto in her letter before she was assassinated were not behind her killing.

“I knew about Pervaiz Elahi and Ejaz Shah, they were very responsible people and I know they wouldn’t be planning to kill her, I mean, it would be utterly stupid of them to do that. Hamid Gul is a man who… always uses his ex-intelligence connections a lot and I know that he hated her. But I don’t know whether he was planning an assassination.”

When asked if there were ex-intelligence people involved in Benazir’s murder, he said that he did not know.

The first part of the interview will air today (Friday) at 8pm in Pakistan.

Jay S | 13 years ago | Reply I am an Indian and I cannot imagine any nation not taking advantage of a situation like Balochistan. When Pakistan with it's 'strategic assets' can strike at the heart of India, I don't see why India should just sit and watch. I think India should raise the ante and allocate billions to take advantage of this situation. This is a heaven-sent opportunity for India and I am sure they're aware of it. India should make it plain - you stop your adventures or else. After Mumbai, the gloves are off - there is no use pretending that things will ever come back on an even keel. One way or another, Mumbai will be the watershed in this dirty business of 'strategic assets'.

I think, people of Balochistan has same rights as any other Pakistani has, Governments never address their issues and bring them in main stream politics. They are the one who generate most of natural gas and other sources and they are suffering on the top from these resources. Mr. Rahul, Stop this nonsense and stop beeping into others matter. Before commenting on our matters, one should know what is going on in this home, where 25% of population suffering form hunger, m0re than 38 seat in lok saba control by moaist party etc I don't want to go in details. Nationalists is the other name for separatists. Foreign intelligence agancies buy out loyalties. Most of the trapped people do not understand that they are used against their own country in destabilizing it. Any one who believes the contrary must look at Iraq and Afghnista. The ten-year war has given them nothing but destruction, deaths and hate.

R S JOHAR | 13 years ago | Reply Musharraf is in news recently who is in a great hurry to make a come back to Pakistan to takeover the reigns of the country. Maybe he got carried away with lot of support in Facebook and some at home. However he must be aware of many conspiracies being hatched against him and he himself has been involved in many too including unsolved and tragic death of Benazeer who was quite popular in India also. We in India also remember him for two counts ie Kargil and Kashmir. In the first case he started the Kargil misadventure where Pak army not mujahideen (as earlier claimed but later retracted him only) suffered a humilating defeat. Many casualities were suffered by both sides but the most shameful and unpardonable part by Pak army was its refusal to takeback the dead bodies of their soldiers killed in this war who were cremated by muslim soldiers of Indian Army and their photographs flashed all over the world to see. Soldiers of any country dying for their country are considered martyrs and treated with respect and deserve a burial by their own army but Musharaf commited this cardinal sin and never acknowledged or regreted it sofar. However in the second case he tried hard to solve the Kashmir problem and he claims close in solving the same. The General is responsible for rise in terrorism in P akistan and unrest in Balauchistan for which he is holding India responsible but at the same time acknowledging of training miltants and sending them to India. Both statements are contradictory so why is he complaining about India. Pakistan so far have not been able to give any proofs of India's involvement in this issue. Nevertheless good luck to the General for his next mis- adventure as and when undertaken since CJP of Pakistan must be waiting eagerly for his return.

The history has divided Baloch ethnicity into a) Sistan Province of Iran; b) Pakistani Baluchistan; and c) Helmand province of Afghanistan. The history of Durand Line and the ethnic clashes with Iran is the fate which Baloch are facing till today. The original homeland of Baloch is north-west Zagros Mountains, Syria, Anatolia and Iran. The area was not part of British Territory but was suzerainty. The Islamic identity of Pakistan brought them closure to Pakistan at the time of partition. However, its accession to Pakistan is strikingly similar to J&K’s accession to India. In Baluchistan the cause of insurgency is its culture and ethnicity and in J&K it is religious fervor. Please also read the history of its accession to Pakistan and the social uprisings and full arms conflicts. First in 1948 led by Prince Abdul Karm Khan; Second in 1958 by Nawab Nowroz Khan; Third in 1963-69 by Sher Mohammad Bijarani Marri; Fourth in 1973-77 by Nawab Khair Baksh Marri and Fifth which is going on since 2004 to till date in which Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti gave his Shahadat. How one can forget the non-violent struggle of Khan Abdul Gaffaar Khan (popularly known as Badshah Khan or Sarhadi Gandhi) against the British Rule in India? Can we forget his social activism and reforming Pushtuns? His ‘Khudai Khidmatgar’ movement is well known world over. Please also read the facts of Turbat Killings and the uprising of Khan of Kalat Mir Suleiman Dawood. It is a fact that the areas of Baluchistan, K-P, G-B, PHK are being run by administration not as a part of Pakistan but as its suzerainty. As my friends in Pakistan say about J&K, let us also see as India, how long Baloch or all other suzerainties of Pakistan will remain subservient to Punjab and Sind?

Other interesting aspect of claim of Indian involvement is that no proof has be shared with India or rest of the world. If Pakistan has credible proof then why hesitate in sharing these with rest of the world instead of making veiled attempts in media.

None of the Indian leaders blamed Pakistan for anything but terrorism They never blamed Pakistan for naxalites, famine of the 50s, LTTE and so on. Indian leaders do not generate Consipiracy theories. None of the Indian leaders after retirement or handing over power go on blaming Pakistan in lecture circuits. They quietly return to their vocation. This applies to Presidents, prime ministers and many ministers except the money chasers who keep changing alliances and allegence. While the same cannot be said about Indian media esp TV. This is attributed to the massive aid that US had given Pakistan. As a result this growth could not be maintained and that has come down to 4%. This was a threat to all the neighbouring countries. Therefore, the current governement is here to destabilize Pakistan and yes they will give statements that will not be for the interest of Pakistan. This is the truth and it will stay like this. I am telling you a huge new revolution to take place in near future. If the condition stays the same.

vasan | 13 years ago | Reply I saw the Mush interview clip today, When the interviewing woman told him that Pakistan has been repeating this allegation against India but has not got any evidence for it, Mush replied that there is a book full of evidence which is given to Karzai also. When the lady persisted about the whereabouts of the evidence and whether it was given to India, Mush' reply was that the book was not, repeat NOT, given to India and it is with the Pakistan authorities. I dont see any point in giving evidence against Indian involvement to Karzai but not India. Earlier this week Rehman Malik announced that all terrorists in Pakistan are not of foreign but Pakistani origin only. OK guys you can make out the validity or even the presence of the evidence for these claims. Truly poor allegation and worse substantiation

And yet, despite a deluge of vehement press statements in recent years not a single iota of proof has been produced. As far as I am concerned they can yell from the rooftops till they are blue in theface until they proffer some real solid evidence I will not believe a single word. One can keep on blaming India, the Yanks, Israel, the Ahmedis (and an assorted list of perceived 'Kaffirs') for all our sins, in the end we should realise we only have ourselves to blame and those who wield power in this country.

Complete denial and blaming India for everything including the recent floods, earth quake in Kashmir has become a big business in terms of Opinion articles, TV shows, filling up news paper columns and blogs. If you read Balochistan history before and after Independence , it is always the Punjabi pakistan that has created all the troubles. When will u guys get the maturity to own your faults

If they are creating unrest what did you or the present government do to about it? On the one hand he seems to know the ins and outs of the nefarious designs of India in Afghanistan, though are ignorant of an assassination which occurred from 5 minutes from your seat of power in Rawalpindi.
