ECC has approved surcharges to the tune of Rs2.4 per unit and an additional cost of system losses in consumer tariff

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) protested the decision of the Economic Coordination Committee of the Cabinet to approve imposition of extra burden of Rs75 billion per year on power consumers. The ECC has approved surcharges to the tune of Rs2.4 per unit and an additional cost of system losses in consumer tariff. The ICCI, in a statement, said the move would mean more trouble for businessmen and the general public. ICCI stated that instead of taking policy measures to make power companies efficient and profitable, the government has adopted an easy approach of passing on the cost of their poor performance to the consumers to meet IMF conditions.
