LAHORE:

Citizens had to endure a seven-hour-long blackout on Thursday after some main electricity transmission lines tripped.

A National Transmission and Dispatch Company spokesperson said power had been restored in urban areas after transmission lines in Guddu had tripped. He said the lines had tripped due to fog. Citizens had to brace for unscheduled spells of load shedding even after the restoration of power. A LESCO spokesperson said the current shortfall was 2,300 megawatts (MW) and the total quota for the company from the nation grid was 1,300 MW. He said the disparity had resulted in 8 to 10 hours of load shedding in urban areas and 12-14 hours load shedding in rural areas.
