A day after Babar Yaqoob Fateh Muhammad was appointed chief secretary on Tuesday, the notification was withdrawn and Khizar Hayat Gondal was appointed chief secretary in his stead on Wednesday.
Gondal has been serving as the federal secretary for ports and shipping and is in BS-22 of the Pakistan Administrative Services. He has previously served as Azad Kashmir chief secretary and additional chief secretary for the Punjab. The government had earlier handed the charge of chief secretary to Mubashar Raza as a stopgap arrangement while it searched for a candidate following former chief secretary Naveed Akram Cheema’s retirement on January 2.
