‘Missing’ person: Suspect claims he was ‘picked up’ three months ago

Court sends notice to DIG South in alleged encounter case.

KARACHI: A district and sessions court has issued notice to District South DIG seeking complete investigation into an alleged encounter case whose suspect appeared to be a missing person.

The injured suspect, Syed Abdullah, was produced before a judicial magistrate of District South, Mumtaz Ali Solangi, on Wednesday by the Clifton police. The investigation officer, ASI Ghulam Abbas, submitted that the suspect was arrested on Tuesday night after an encounter near Carlton Hotel and an unlicensed pistol was recovered from him.



On the other hand, the suspect told the court that he was abducted on October 27 last year by some men in plainclothes from outside the factory he was working at in the Korangi Industrial Area. He was blindfolded and kept in a shack, and was severely beaten. On Monday, he was taken out of this place and driven to another location where he was shot in his leg.

The suspect’s sister also added that her brother had been missing for the last three months and an application, D-15/15, for his recovery had been filed with the Sindh High Court. The SHC had recently issued notices to the home secretary, the Rangers director-general Rangers, Sindh IG for January 13, she added. The judicial magistrate was displeased with the police report and told the IO to provide complete medical assistance to the suspect. Admit him at Civil hospital, if needed, he directed, before issuing a notice to DIG South to submit his report by January 20.

The police had booked Abdullah under Section 324 (attempting to murder), 353(assaulting public servant), 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 23(1)-A of the Sindh Arms Act.
