Staying on: Amin quashes talk about quitting PPP

Expresses concerns over the “dismal” performance of the Sindh government

KARACHI: Senior leader of the PPP Makhdoom Amin Fahim has expressed serious concerns over the “dismal” performance of the Sindh government, but said he would not give up on the party. 

Speaking to the media after his meeting with PPP co-chairman at Bilawal House on Sunday, he said, “We and our elders have rendered sacrifices for strengthening PPP. How can I part ways with it,” he questioned, adding that the report about his differences with the PPP leadership was pure speculation.



“Today, I shared people’s grievances with Asif Ali Zardari and being party head would point out the wrongdoing in party and the provincial government,” he said, adding that PPP voters would come on the roads against the party if it failed to resolve their issues.

Makhdoom also announced that the Sindh government would establish Talib-ul-Mola University in Hala.

Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Sherry Rehman and Senator Raza Rabbani were also present in the meeting.

MQM against no-trust motion

MQM parliamentary leader Syed Sardar Ahmed said that his party would not support any move against the chief minister. Talking to the media at his chamber in Sindh Assembly he said, “The system cannot be changed with the removal of chief minister, therefore we will not back any motion against CM,” he said, adding he had no idea if Pir Pagara was consulting with MQM chief Altaf Hussain over this issue.

PML-N to support CM

PML-N MPA Sorath Thebo also said that they would not vote against the chief minister. “Our party policy is not to derail any democratic government or its chief executive,” she said, adding that they would expose the corruption and mismanagement of the provincial government, but will not be part of any motion against CM.

Jameel ul Zaman rejoins dept

After a four-month protest with the chief minister, Makhdoom Jameel ul Zaman has finally taken over the charge of his department- revenue and relief on Monday.

He had stopped working by not attending the office as well as cabinet meetings. The development comes following the meeting between Makhdoom Amin Fahim and PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari at Bilawal House on Sunday.

Sources privy to the development told The Express Tribune that the “cold war” between the chief minister and Makhdoom family started after last year’s drought in Thar which claimed hundreds of lives, especially those of children.
