FAISALABAD:

Tandlianwala Saddar police on Monday registered a First Information Report (FIR) against 53 people for attacking a police team.

The case was registered on the complaint of Bahlak Station House Officer (SHO) Bashir Ahmad under Sections 224, 225, 353, 324, 186, 148 and 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

Ahmad in his complaint said he took a police team to raid a house in Chak 411-GB to arrest Yousuf who was wanted in a robbery case registered at Bahlak police station.

“When the police entered the house to arrest him, dozens of his relatives, including several women, attacked them and tried to stop them from taking Yousuf away,” he said.

“They took the police team hostage and tore down their uniforms,” he said.

He said they also attacked them with sticks and clubs, closing doors to the house and screaming loudly.

The SHO said they also fired shots in the air, forcing the team to leave without arresting Yousuf. He said aiding wanted criminals was against the law. He said police teams would soon return to the house and arrest all those who had impeded police action.
