Asian weightlifting championship: Fahad lifts three silver medals

Pakistani weightlifter bags accolades in his first international appearance

KARACHI: Pakistan’s Fahad Hussain Butt has won three silver medals at the Asian Youth Weightlifting Championship being held in Doha, Qatar.

Kazakhstan Igor Son collected  gold medals in the Snatch, Clean+Jerk and Total categories while Fahad finished second by lifting 86kg in Snatch, 101kg in Clean +Jerk 101 and 187kg in Total.

Apart from Pakistan, weightlifters from India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Algeria, Oman, Taiwan, Qatar, Iraq, Sri Lanka and Oman are participating in the event.

This is Fahad’s first appearance at in any international competition.

The Pakistan Weightlifting Federation (PWF), with help from the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), has given athletes the advantage of the latest modern training regimes so that they can do well in the international circuit.

Coach Irfan Butt and manager Chaudry Mushtaq Ahmad are now expecting good performances from Abdur Rehman (77kg) and Nooh Dastgir Butt (94kg) category as well.
