LAHORE:

Justice Sardar Tariq Masood of Lahore High Court overruled on Thursday the registrar office’s objection to a plea against execution of a man convicted on charges of killing an army man.

The judge admitted the petition for hearing setting aside the registrar’s objection regarding its maintainability.

Faiz was awarded death sentence in 2006 for killing Nike Mahmood in Nankana.

Faiz’s counsel said an appeal against the sentence was pending before the Supreme Court. He said an anti-terrorism court had issued his death warrants on the Faisalabad jail superintendent’s request. The lawyer accused the superintendent of misleading the court. He requested the court to stay the execution and set aside the death warrants.
