KARACHI: A district and sessions court ordered on Wednesday the booking of police personnel associated with the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) for illegally detaining a man and taking money for his release. The complainant, Shehzad, complained to the additional district and sessions judge, district Central, Aliya Latif Unar, that an AVCC sub-inspector, Abrar, and other personnel had abducted him last year when he was shifting his automobile workshop to his house due to the construction of a flyover in PIB Colony. The police demanded Rs500,000 million for his release. Later, the matter was settled after he paid Rs100,000. Shehzad added that policemen were once again threatening him to pay Rs50,000 more or else they will book him in another case. The judge ordered the relevant police officials to book Abrar and his accomplices and start a departmental inquiry.
