Targeted attack: Policeman and friend gunned down

The friend was an alleged supporter of the Uzair Baloch group.

KARACHI: A policeman and a alleged supporter of Lyari’s Uzair Baloch group were killed in a targeted attack within the limits of the Pak Colony police station on Sunday evening. The deceased police officer was identified as Abdul Hafeez Baloch, 35, son of Haji Malang, and his friend was identified as Khudadad Baloch, 36. Abdul Hafeez was posted at the Court police station. The incident took place when he was sitting near his residence in Lashari Mohallah in Jahanabad.

SHO Irfan Asif said that Khudadad, who was a supporter of the Uzair Baloch group, was with Abdul Hafeez when six to eight men on motorcycles opened fire at them. The police suspect that the culprits were from the Baba Ladla group. They added that an investigation is being carried out.

In an unrelated incident, an alleged robber was shot dead in an exchange of fire with the police in Gulshan-e-Iqbal on Sunday.

The police said that the alleged encounter took place when two suspects on a motorcycle were mugging people on Rashid Minhas Road.

One of the suspects was killed in firing while the other managed to escape. The body was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where the deceased was identified as Saad Shaikh, a resident of Shah Faisal Colony.
