Under the new strategy, both the property owners and tenants will be provided a registration number after they submit details to their relevant police station, said the Islamabad police spokesperson on Sunday.
The spokesperson said that a search operation was conducted in Khanna, Koral, Iqbal Town, Shehzad Town, Humak and in the surrounding areas against property owners and tenants.
During the search operation, particulars of the tenants were collected and 26 cases under section 144 were registered against property owners who failed to provide details about their tenants before renting out their properties.
SSP Asmatullah Junejo told The Express Tribune that the step was being taken to tackle with the present critical situation and to ensure safety of citizens.
He urged people to provide complete details to the police stations about their tenants before putting their properties on rent. He said legal action will be taken against property owners who fail to provide particulars of their tenants.
Citizen’s bodies to protect neighbourhoods
Police have also decided to set up security and surveillance committees of citizens in neighbourhoods to ensure the safety of people. Due to the prevailing situation, police with the cooperation of the people has formed a strategy to tackle criminal elements, said the spokesperson, adding that public can play an important role in dealing with miscreants in the present day situation.
The police have asked youth to submit their details in relevant police stations to become part of the security and surveillance committees. Furthermore, women who wish to be a part of these committees should provide their details at the Women Police Station at Sitara Market.
Police will provide special cards to the members of the committees. They will be tasked to keep a vigilant eye on their surroundings and inform the relevant police station or Rescue 15 about any suspicious persons their activities and vehicles.
Talking about the police strategy, Inspector General of Police Tahir Alam Khan said citizens can play an important role in eliminating crime from society. He said citizens should perform their responsibility in the present circumstances, identify the criminal elements and completely cooperate with the police.
“Police with the cooperation of the public will eradicate the menace of terrorism from society,” he said.
