Militant commander killed as sweeps continue in K-P

Around 150 suspects were arrested in fresh search and seize operations on Sunday.

SWABI/ PESHAWAR/ BANNU/ CHARSADDA/ DI KHAN: Search operations to root out militants and terrorists continue as security forces and law-enforcement agencies tighten the noose across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).

An alleged militant commander was killed in a shoot-out between security forces and militants during a search operation in Bachki in Jani Khel, Bannu on Sunday. An official of Jani Khel police said militant commander Dilfaraz Jan was killed in crossfire.

Peshawar

A suicide jacket was recovered from a house in Mian Jee Kala, in the jurisdiction of Mathra police in areas adjacent to Mullagori, Khyber Agency on Sunday evening.

A police official said the crackdown was carried out in Shagai and adjoining areas. The operation was still under way till filing of this report. Dozens of suspects were detained and shifted to an unknown location for interrogation. “The operation is a part of our sweeps in areas of Peshawar, especially those that lie close to the tribal belt,” he added.

Charsadda

Four suspects, including a father and two sons, were arrested by security officials during an operation in Nisata, Charsadda on Sunday.

Sadiq Shah, a resident of Nisata was nabbed along with two sons while the fourth suspect, Kishwar, is said to be an Afghan national.

Swabi

Around 120 suspects, including numerous Afghan refugees and tribesmen were arrested from various areas of Swabi during sweeps on Sunday. Swabi DPO Sajjad Khan said police launched a crackdown in an Afghan refugee camp, Baragai Salim Khan, Chota Lahor and Rajar areas on Sunday.

DI Khan

Forces also conducted an operation in Zarkai, Kolachi tehsil, DI Khan on Sunday afternoon. At least 35 houses were searched in a door-to-door raid and over a dozen suspects were arrested.

Furthermore, seven pistols and a large cache of weapons were also seized in the crackdown.
